I went to see The Railway Man last night, based on the book by Eric Lomax, a survivor of the Burmese Railway. It's had fairly poor reviews, which surprised me because I thought it was very good. So the Oscars went entirely as predicted. I'm still a little disappointed Inception got shafted with just technical awards, and I'll never understand how Chris Nolan wasn't even nominated for Best Director - but I'm pleased with the ways things went. Yay for The King's Speech! 12 nominations, including Colin, Helena and Geoffrey. I'm so pleased to see that. It was such a wonderful film - and I really hope Colin wins. I thought he deserved it last year for A Single Man so maybe this is his year. Fingers crossed!

Not in a million years, and especially since I appear to have developed some kind of personal grudge against Avatar and am apparently refusing point-blank to see it. Don't ask me why.

But I do know who I want to win Best Actor and Best Actress, and not just because those are the only two performances I've actually seen.
